People of Color

We are all poets that create images,

painting thoughts and feelings with words,

and often these words reveal blemishes,

unveiling things rather left unheard.

We are mirrors that give reflections,

a view of ourselves that make some skeptic,

regret our existence as far back as conception,

affecting others in ways that can be septic.

But more often we bring joy, hope and contentment,

causing smiles that were suppressed to bloom,

pulling from our shattered lives fragments,

to be jewels of light during their gloom.

Our mannerisms and confessions may seem outrageous,

but the thoughts and feelings we invoke are contagious.
